THAILAND’S HERITAGE

SO MUCH MORE THAN SCENIC POSTCARDS

When people imagine Thailand, they usually imagine it as one place with just one culture, but it actually is quite diverse. With 4 unique cultures and styles within one country, there has been a rise in art, crafts, and cuisine. These four main parts of Thailand’s Culture are divided as; The North, The North East, Central, and The South. From the North to South, the people, the way of life, the food, the fashion, culture, and language are all of its unique blended history, culture, and so much more.

When you visit the different regions, you will hear the people speak various different dialects, using unfamiliar words, with their own unique tastes and traditions. From the slow laid back way of life in the North to the fast and robust life of the South. To the wild lifestyle and food of The Northeastern and the modern and humble central Thailand. Journeying through these various regions you will see a country that isn’t just skin deep but the whole cultural package.

NORTHERN THAILAND’S HERITAGE

The gorgeous arts of Lanna, fascinating sea of fog

The northern part of Thailand is home to two world-famous UNESCO world heritage sites, as well as many mountains and rivers, indigenous people, and wildlife aplenty. It’s easy to see why life has a slower pace in the North.

This part of Thailand is richly diverse, the food here is much different than you would get in the south, in the north the flavors are richer and warmer, compared to spicy and hot. This region is where silk comes from, and it reflects in their soft way of life. This way of life has brought forward amazing and creative arts, crafts, food, and fashion.

CENTRAL THAILAND’S HERITAGE

Abundant agriculture, and exquisite handicrafts.

The fertile Central Plains region, watered by the winding Chao Phraya River, has long been Thailand’s cultural and economic heart. Despite its Western facade, Bangkok Thailand’s capital city, remains distinctively Thai, a fusion of modern and traditional. The fusion of modern and traditional is why central Thailand is so well balanced, the food here is a perfect representation because it has to cater to a balanced way of life.

Much of what we now know as Thai cuisine also evolved in the Central Region. Rice, fish, and vegetables, flavored with garlic, black pepper, and nam pla, or fish sauce, along with an abundance of fresh fruits, comprised the primary diet of Sukhothai. The way of life in Central is relaxed, and the culture is a fantastic representation of that.

The people in this area and their language is called E-sarn. They are mostly farmers, who live simple, sustainable & happy lives, living off of the land and in tune with nature. The foods of this region are wilder, which means you can find meats like fried insects, fried scorpions, and raw pork with blood salad in their diet.

They are very famous for their food, their textiles and their carefree nature. The best way to describe this part of Thailand is wild and free.

SOUTHERN THAILAND’S HERITAGE

Stunning corals, emerald oceans, appealing forests, and prestige pearls.

Southern Thailand consists of a long beautiful peninsula, lush with tropical rainforests, gorgeous coastlines, reaching all the way down to Malaysia. Besides its rare natural beauty, the south also has a distinctive cultural difference thanks to the Chinese immigrants in the 17th century and now a largely Muslim population. The mixture of these 2 cultures has had a significant effect on food, traditions, and arts.

The culture of this region has evolved over centuries and has been influenced by many, the people here are strong, and the food is spicy. The south is widely known among ancient traders for such natural wealth, such as tin ore and edible bird nests, which are harvested from limestone caves and cliff sides.
